Online Shoppers Require Lightning Speed

A nice report by the BBC demonstrating how much online commerce is impacted by website performance. Obviously, nobody wants to wait long and slow sites certainly pay the price with falling sales. Nevertheless, I was still surprised at just how major an impact even a split second difference can have.

Staples, for example, saw its online sales increase 10% after speeding up its website by a second

10% is massive. Especially for these companies with multi billion dollar sales turnovers. Also who would believe the ideal loading time is just 2.5 seconds?

Nordstrom believes a page load time of 2.5 seconds or below strikes the right balance between functionality and speed.

Wow. Amazing.
